Week to End Enbridge! Between June 13 to 21

What’s happening here is just an unbelievable level of support. What blows my mind is the scale. Where it can go and where it could end up is unprecedented. I’m blown away by the momentum of what Pull Together is going to build for us.” - Peter Lantin, President of the Haida Nation

Dear Cheryl,

A lot has happened since June 17, 2014, the day the federal government announced its approval of Enbridge's Northern Gateway proposal.

Far from opening the door to Enbridge, the federal approval fanned the flames of B.C.'s profound opposition to pipelines and tankers—and inspired us to launch the amazing Pull Together campaign, in support of the First Nations in court to defend their lands and waters – and the salmon, drinking water and climate we all depend on - from the threat of oil spills.

We are marking the one year anniversary of that federal decision with the Week to End Enbridge!  Between June 13 to 21, a wave of community and business Pull Together events will sweep the province, sending a clear message of support to the First Nations and reinforcing our collective opposition to the Enbridge pipeline and tankers proposal. Already I know about a dance being held in Prince George, a picnic in Terrace, a paddle in Victoria, a bakery in Vancouver donating their revenue, and so many more events in the works, being planned by farmers and businesses and youth and musicians and First Nations and possibly even by you!

We’ve already raised almost $400,000 for the First Nations legal challenges, thanks to the creativity and commitment of communities, individuals and businesses across B.C. Our goal is to raise a total of $600,000 by the summer, so the Heiltsuk, Kitasoo-Xai’xais, Gitga’at, Haida, Gitxaala, Nadleh Whut’en and Nak’azdli Nations have the resources they need before court hearings start this fall.

Will you join Pull Together for the Week to End Enbridge? Let’s show Enbridge and the federal government that British Columbians stand with First Nations in opposing this dirty oil pipeline!

It can be as easy as eating chocolate! Proceeds from each Denman Island Chocolate's Simply Dark Pull Together Bar go directly to the Pull Together campaign. Here’s a list of over 70 retailers where you can buy the bar until June 30th. Who knew stopping a pipeline could be so delicious?

But I am really hoping you will organize a Pull Together event! Our theme for the week is Eat! Paddle! Dance! And really, there is no limit to what you can do, big or small. As long as your event mentions Pull Together and you send in the funds, you’re part of the movement!  For ideas or to find an event near you, keep an eye on the Pull Together website as we post all the upcoming Week to End Enbridge events.

Download our events toolkit for tips, tools, and inspiration and email us at galen@sierraclub.bc.ca for support, encouragement or just to let us know about your event.

Of course, stopping this pipeline, standing with First Nations, and protecting our climate is serious business.  What we are witnessing with Pull Together is the beauty and importance of celebrating community, building relationships across cultures and having some fun along the way.

I hope you can join us, it’s shaping up to be quite the week.

Sincerely,

Caitlyn Vernon
Campaigns Director
