: The Department of Historical and Cultural Studies at the University of Toronto Scarborough invites applications for a tenure-stream appointment in women and gender studies. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor and will commence on July 1, 2017.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in women and gender studies or another relevant discipline by the date of appointment or shortly thereafter. While we welcome applicants from all fields/disciplines who can contribute to the teaching and research of our Women’s and Gender Studies Program (WST), candidates are required to have demonstrated expertise in feminist theory, queer theory, diverse sexualities, or femininity/masculinity, and candidates with additional expertise in law, science, indigeneity, postcolonial studies or migration will be given priority.

The successful candidates must have strong communication skills and must have demonstrated excellence in teaching and research. Excellence in research can be shown by an outstanding dissertation, publications in leading academic journals/presses, presentations at major academic conferences, awards, and strong endorsements by referees. Excellence in teaching can be shown by very strong teaching references, teaching accomplishments, teaching evaluations, course syllabi and other elements of the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application. The successful candidate must also demonstrate the ability to conduct innovative research at the highest international level and the ability to secure highly competitive research grants from external funding agencies.

The new hire will teach and supervise both undergraduate and graduate students, and will be expected to develop and regularly offer courses at all levels including introductory survey courses required of all WST majors/minors. S/he is also expected to play an important role in strengthening the WST Program and enhancing synergies across the department by collaborating with colleagues in other programs in teaching and research initiatives. Situated in such a highly interdisciplinary institution, the WST Program offers unique exciting opportunities for developing cutting-edge research and teaching as well as extensive engagement with the local communities. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
