Adaptogen “Latte”

https://integrative.ca/adaptogen-latte/ Keyrsten Mcewan | 2 min Minute Read Health, Nutrition, Wellness Have you heard about adaptogens? They’re all the rage these days and for good reason. Adaptogens are a family of herbs that help the body stress response processes to work optimally. When we are under stress, our adrenal glands release a number of different hormones, including cortisol. These adaptogens help our bodies regulate cortisol, and other adrenal hormone levels. If you’re stressed, tired, feeling run down or have adrenal dysfunction, then you’ve got to try my stress-busting spin on the “latte”. Maca powder is my favorite adaptogen as it seems to have the most balancing effect on our stress hormones, meaning it increases levels when they’re too low and reduces levels when they’re too high. It has a nutty flavor that lends itself well to the cinnamon and chocolatey taste of the latte. Here’s how to make your own adaptogen latte: BONUS ingredient Raw cacao powder is one of the highest dietary sources of magnesium, which is often deficient during times of stress, and can help us to feel relaxed and get a good night’s sleep. 1 cup unsweetened almond milk (or other non-dairy milk of your choice) 1 tsp raw cacao powder 1 tsp maca powder (available in our dispensary at Integrative and most other health food stores) ½ tsp cinnamon Pinch of stevia or drizzle of raw honey, for sweetness (optional) Warm almond milk in a small saucepan. If you have a high-powered blender like a Vitamix, you can skip this step as the blender will heat the almond milk for you. Transfer to a blender with the remaining ingredients. Blend for about 30 seconds or until smooth. Pour into your favorite mug and enjoy!
