Fully funded PhD fellowships for social science and cultural studies scholars

Dear SLSAers, We have extended the deadline on our call for applications for doctoral candidates to work with the Fiction Meets Science research consortium as we move beyond fiction to look at the societal contexts and effects of other kinds of narratives about science. One current call is listed here, but more will be coming soon: The official announcements can be found at: www.fictionmeetsscience.org/ccm/content/news-and-events/news/fms-ii-varieties-of-science-narrative/ The most pressing deadline is for the following position: Fully funded doctoral research fellowship for students in sociology, cultural studies, STS, media and communication studies, Asian studies, and related fields. Students interested in an international perspective on science in society are invited to apply three-year research fellowship in an interdisciplinary project that examines the roles of different kinds of narratives (fictional and factual, in various forms and media) about climate change in the political and policy-making spheres, with a focus on Southeast Asia. Applicants should have a Master’s or equivalent experience in a related field. The project, “Narrating Science as a World-Making Activity: Sea Level Change in Singapore,” is part of a joint research program of the Development and Knowledge Sociology and the Fiction Meets Science groups at the Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research and the University of Bremen in northern Germany. The Ph.D. is awarded by these institutions, and the student will be based in Bremen, Germany, but do several months of field research in Singapore. The project language is English (knowledge of Singaporean Chinese, Tamil, or Malay would be a welcome asset, but is not required). As this is an interdisciplinary project, qualifications are broad: If you are uncertain as to your eligibility or have other questions please feel free to contact the project leader, Professor Anna-Katharina Hornidge (anna-katharina.hornidge@leibniz-zmt.de). Deadline: December 15, 2017 (may be extended if needed to find the right candidate). See a detailed description of the project and the official call for applications at: www.fictionmeetsscience.org/ccm/content/news-and-events/news/fms-ii-varieties-of-science-narrative/ Susan M.
